Organisations, Strategy, Strategies, Implementation:
The way companies determine their strategies is the subject matter of other videos on the course. This video focuses on the implementation of selected strategies. There are many issues that needs to be considered in this context, for example resistance to change, often staff will resist change because they are accustomed to working in certain ways. It may also be the case that there are technical reasons quite change should not be brought about, for example it may necessitate new capital equipment, with long and expensive training programmes for the staff.
The video discusses many of these issues and it’s important to realise that simply because a company may develop a new strategy it does not mean it will necessarily be implemented. Implementation will require discussions, retraining, resources, and reorganisation. These must be balanced against the estimated returns flowing from the new strategy.
